Egypt’s Petroleum Ministry says early indicators point to strong interest from Egyptian and international mining companies in gold, mineral and ore opportunities recently offered under its Open Blocks Licensing Program.
Minister Karim Badawi, meeting with Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority chairman Yasser Ramadan to review applications, said the growing investor appetite reflects rising confidence in Egypt’s mining investment climate. The programme, introduced in 2024, lets companies nominate and bid for exploration opportunities in oil, gas and mining without waiting for scheduled licensing rounds.
Badawi described the mechanism as a qualitative leap offering flexibility, transparency and speed in the application and award process, saying it helps attract leading international mining companies and generate added value from Egypt’s mineral resources. The push follows the recent opening of the NW Al Amal Block for oil and gas bidding and an earlier announcement opening applications for gold, phosphate, talc and kaolin exploration.
