Egypt’s state-owned power grid operator, the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Alcazar Energy to build a 407-megawatt wind power plant in the Zafarana region, with operations set to begin in 2028.
The agreement was signed by EETC Chairwoman Mona Rezk and Alcazar Energy Senior Director for Egypt Mohamed Zidan. The plant is projected to supply clean electricity to around 775,000 households while significantly cutting carbon emissions. Rezk said the project supports the company’s plans to upgrade Egypt’s national grid to accommodate expanding renewable capacity, and that collaborating with the private sector remains central to achieving the country’s renewable energy goals.
The deal follows Alcazar’s earlier $420 million agreement this year to operate, maintain and upgrade the 580MW Gabal El-Zeit wind farm on the Red Sea, part of Egypt’s broader push to expand private-sector participation in renewables. Egypt has moved up its target of sourcing 45% of generation capacity from renewables to 2030, from a previous 2035 goal.
