Anthropic has signed a $10 billion, six-year computing agreement with Volta Infra Holdings, a cloud infrastructure startup that only launched earlier this year, marking the latest in a string of major compute deals the Claude maker has struck as it races to keep pace with surging demand for its AI models. The agreement was first reported by Bloomberg, with people familiar with the matter identifying Anthropic as the previously unnamed AI lab behind Volta’s marquee contract.
Under the deal, Volta will deliver computing capacity in partnership with Bitdeer Technologies, a Bitcoin mining company that has been converting parts of its data center portfolio toward AI infrastructure as crypto mining margins have narrowed. The capacity will be housed at a data center site in Norway offering 133 megawatts of power, built around Nvidia’s newest Vera Rubin chip architecture, with Volta itself part of Nvidia’s Cloud Partner program.
Founded in January by former executives from Brookfield Asset Management, Volta has moved remarkably quickly from launch to landing a marquee client of Anthropic’s scale, having also just closed $300 million in venture funding from backers including Andreessen Horowitz, Altimeter Capital, Nvidia and Michael Dell, valuing the young company at $2.4 billion. Separately, Volta announced a $5 billion AI infrastructure financing programme with asset manager Azora, aimed at helping future customers cover the steep upfront costs of AI chip deployment.
The Volta agreement extends a rapidly growing list of compute partnerships Anthropic has struck in recent months, including deals with SpaceX, AMD and Akamai, as the company works to secure the infrastructure needed to support its models following a $65 billion funding round earlier this year. While Anthropic has not publicly confirmed the Volta deal, the arrangement underscores how heavily AI developers are now leaning on both established tech giants and brand-new infrastructure startups to secure the compute capacity their growth depends on.
