Ivory Coast’s state oil company Petroci has assumed operatorship of the Espoir oil field, formally taking over Block CI-26 from exploration company Canada Natural Resources.
A new subsidiary, Petroci CI-26, has been created to manage the block, led by incoming chief executive Mabintou Tatiana Cissé, with the existing consortium structure, which also includes Tullow Oil, remaining unchanged under the new operating arrangement.
Espoir came onstream in 2002, ramping up to 30,000 barrels per day. Discovered in 1982, the field lies nine kilometres offshore Jacqueville in water depths of 100 to 600 metres and holds estimated recoverable reserves of 93 million barrels of oil and 180 billion cubic feet of gas.
