Niger State Courts Dangote Group for Major Oil Basin Development Partnership

Niger State Governor Umaru Muhammed Bago is actively seeking partnership with the Dangote Group to unlock the massive crude oil potential discovered in the state’s Bida Basin. Speaking at the Dangote Special Day event during the Niger National Trade Fair in Minna, the governor positioned the state as “open for business” for private sector investment in hydrocarbon exploration.

The Dangote Group’s proven track record in executing large-scale industrial projects, particularly the world’s largest single-train refinery, makes it an ideal partner for the ambitious venture. A 2023 geological survey identified 17 commercially viable oil blocks in Niger State, with estimated reserves capable of sustaining production for approximately 70 years.

Governor Bago emphasized the economic transformation potential, describing the Bida Basin discovery as Niger State’s “ticket to economic prosperity.” The proposed free trade zone would provide competitive advantages by streamlining operations and creating an conducive investment ecosystem for large-scale developments.
