Egypt Intensifies Fuel Station Oversight to Combat Subsidy Violations

The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation has launched comprehensive oversight campaigns across the country to monitor petroleum product circulation and prevent illegal disposal or smuggling of subsidized fuels. The initiative involves EGPC’s Central Committee for Monitoring Product Circulation working in coordination with Supply Police and Ministry of Supply agencies.

The monitoring efforts integrate field supervision with advanced tracking technology, including GPS-based systems for transport vehicles and Automatic Tank Gauge systems for measuring fuel station tank balances. This technological approach has significantly enhanced monitoring efficiency and violation detection accuracy.

Recent field reviews covered petroleum product shipping depots, matching actual loaded products with electronic system records to prevent subsidized product leakage. The committee also conducted inspections of butane cylinder filling plants and warehouses, ensuring accurate filling weights and compliance with safe operating conditions.

Comprehensive review operations covered approximately 4,000 fuel stations across various Egyptian governorates following recent gasoline quality issues. Samples were collected for analysis to verify fuel quality and detect water contamination in fuel tanks.

EGPC emphasized its commitment to continuous 24/7 digital monitoring supported by surprise field campaigns to ensure strict control over petroleum product distribution and protect consumer rights.
