Invictus Energy has awarded a batch of contracts covering wellpad construction, civil works and logistics as it prepares to drill the Musuma-1 exploration well in its Cabora Bassa project in Zimbabwe.
The contracts cover upgrades to access roads and water supply infrastructure needed to support rig transport and drilling operations, with site works under way to have the wellpad ready to receive Rig 202. Invictus has also completed evaluation of long-lead equipment suppliers, securing the remaining major procurement items for the well.
Rig contractor Exalo Drilling is mobilising a team to Zimbabwe this week to begin in-country setup and critical maintenance on Rig 202 ahead of its move to the Musuma-1 site. Invictus managing director Scott Macmillan said the contract awards mark an important step toward field execution, with the company on track to spud the well in the second half of 2026.
Musuma-1 is targeting an estimated 1.2 trillion cubic feet of gas and 73 million barrels of condensate, and represents the first high-impact well to be drilled outside the Mukuyu discovery area, testing a new play type in the Cabora Bassa Basin.
