Egyptian Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi has met with senior SLB executives to discuss deploying artificial intelligence across exploration, production and operations, as the ministry looks to speed up decision-making and cut costs.

The talks covered upgrades to the Egypt Upstream Gateway to integrate AI and advanced data analytics, which Badawi said should improve investment evaluation, reduce risk and help pinpoint promising exploration areas more accurately. He called for a fully integrated digital ecosystem linking geological, geophysical and production data.

SLB presented tools for real-time energy monitoring, equipment performance optimisation and early detection of methane emissions, alongside flare gas reduction technology aimed at supporting the sector’s sustainability goals. The meeting follows an earlier announcement that Egypt is in talks with UAE-based AIQ to launch a dedicated AI platform for the country’s petroleum sector.
