A.P. Moller Capital has agreed to acquire 100% of Mainstream Renewable Power South Africa, marking the firm’s entry into the country’s renewable energy sector and adding a fully integrated platform to its growing emerging markets infrastructure portfolio.
The acquisition, made through A.P. Moller Capital’s Emerging Markets Infrastructure Fund II, brings in a well-established renewable energy developer and independent power producer with 148 megawatts of operating and in-construction assets, 351 megawatts of construction-ready projects, and an approximately 11.6 gigawatt development pipeline.
Mainstream South Africa has built a fully integrated renewable energy platform spanning development, energy trading, project delivery, asset management, and operations and maintenance, serving a growing base of corporate customers with established relationships across leading South African companies. Following completion, which remains subject to regulatory and other third-party approvals, A.P. Moller Capital will partner with Mainstream South Africa’s existing management team to expand its operating portfolio, grow its energy trading business, and support the company’s next phase of development.
“Mainstream South Africa is a high-quality business with an experienced management team, a proven track record and one of the country’s largest renewable energy development pipelines,” said Jens Thomassen, Partner at A.P. Moller Capital. “As power demand and the need for new generation capacity continue to grow, this investment strengthens our energy transition strategy and supports our ambition to build a leading independent power producer in South Africa.”
