Libya’s National Oil Corporation and British energy major BP have held an extensive working session at the NOC’s Tripoli headquarters to discuss the frameworks for BP’s potential return to active operations in the country, in a meeting that signals growing optimism around Libya’s investment environment.

The meeting brought together the NOC’s Director of Health, Safety and Environment alongside the Director of BP Libya, focusing on cooperation and coordination mechanisms that would allow BP to commence operations in line with the NOC’s strategy to increase production while safeguarding lives, property and the environment.

BP representatives were also briefed on the NOC’s ongoing initiatives to reduce gas flaring and minimise methane and greenhouse gas emissions, reflecting the corporation’s broader commitment to sustainability and international environmental standards.

The discussions form part of the NOC’s wider push to facilitate the return of international energy companies to Libya, as the country seeks to stabilise its upstream sector and rebuild investor confidence following years of political disruption.
