QatarEnergy’s North Field LNG expansion one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas projects is on track to significantly boost global gas export capacity by 2026. When fully operational, the expansion is projected to raise annual LNG output from around 77 million tonnes to more than 110 million tonnes, a dramatic enhancement of Qatar’s export footprint.
The project involves international collaboration with major energy firms holding equity stakes, including Shell, TotalEnergies, and ExxonMobil, positioning it as a cornerstone initiative in global gas infrastructure. This alliance not only supports increased supply but also diversifies export destinations across Europe and Asia.
In addition to LNG, the expansion includes increased production of associated products such as ethane, LPG, and condensates, creating new revenue streams and enhancing Qatar’s downstream market influence.
With longterm supply contracts already signed to begin deliveries in 2026, North Field’s growth is expected to strengthen energy security for importers while promoting stable trade relationships. As global demand for flexible, lower carbon fuels continues, Qatar’s LNG capacity expansion positions the country at the forefront of future market development well into the 2030s.
