Italian energy giant Eni has awarded TechnipFMC a substantial engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract for the Coral North development, marking the second floating liquefied natural gas project in Mozambique’s offshore waters. The contract, valued between $250 million and $500 million, was included in TechnipFMC’s inbound orders for the second quarter of 2025.
The Coral North project represents a follow-on development to Coral South, which became the world’s first FLNG project in ultradeep water when it started operating in 2022. Located in water depths of approximately 2,000 meters in the supergiant Rovuma basin, the project will produce gas from the northern part of Area 4 Coral gas reservoir through a state-of-the-art floating LNG facility.
Under the contract, TechnipFMC will manufacture and install flexible flowlines and risers, as well as install subsea manifolds and umbilicals to support the offshore gas development. The company plans to leverage its experience from the successful delivery of Coral South by replicating its proven approach with enhanced methods.
Jonathan Landes, President of Subsea for TechnipFMC, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating that the company is excited to once again work with Eni and their consortium partners in Mozambique. Coral North will be the second large-scale FLNG delivered in ultra-deep waters worldwide, with production anticipated to begin in 2028.
