Perenco has successfully completed a 12-well drilling campaign at the Badila oilfield in Chad through its wholly owned subsidiary PetroChad Mangara, significantly boosting the company’s oil output in the country. The campaign included eight horizontal wells targeting the Upper Cretaceous reservoir, three water disposal wells, and one appraisal well.

The completion of the drilling program has pushed Perenco’s total oil output in Chad from both the Badila and Mangara fields to more than 18,000 barrels of oil per day, exceeding the initial production target of 16,000 barrels per day following the restart of operations three years ago. The campaign alone contributed a production increase of 7,000 barrels per day.

In addition to drilling operations, four gas turbines were installed at the site, providing additional power generation capacity and improving processing capabilities to accommodate increased production from Badila. The GWDC rig has now been relocated to PetroChad Mangara’s Krim development in the Doba Basin in southern Chad, where it will undertake a further eight-well drilling campaign.

PetroChad Mangara general manager Eric Josseron described the success of the Badila campaign as an important operational milestone, emphasizing that the ongoing investment in drilling demonstrates the company’s commitment to Chad. The campaign was conducted safely and in close coordination with Société des Hydrocarbures du Tchad and the Ministry of Hydrocarbons.

PetroChad Mangara was established in 2012 and acquired by Perenco in June 2022. The technical capabilities of Perenco enabled the restart of the Badila and Mangara oilfields following a prolonged shutdown. Beyond operations, the company has delivered community initiatives focused on health, education, clean energy provision for the hospital in Moundou, and biodiversity support, designed to have meaningful and lasting positive impact in areas near operations.
