Ukraine has finalized a €470 million agreement aimed at restoring a vital rail corridor heavily damaged by ongoing conflict, following the separate announcement of its plan to acquire 100 Rafale fighter jets from France. Officials say the rail deal is essential to maintaining civilian mobility and military logistics.

The funding will support reconstruction of tracks, bridges and signaling systems along a key east-west line that has suffered repeated strikes. Engineers will also deploy new protective technology to secure the route.

The rail corridor is a crucial supply chain artery, enabling humanitarian transport and linking major industrial hubs. Its deterioration has increased travel times and disrupted commercial operations.

Analysts say the dual developments military procurement and infrastructure recovery highlight Ukraine’s strategy of balancing defense modernization with essential economic stability. The government is seeking financial support from multiple partners.

European officials describe the rail agreement as a lifeline for both civilian welfare and national resilience, underscoring the continent’s commitment to supporting Ukraine’s recovery.
