Global integrated energy company TotalEnergies has partnered with carbon project developer DelAgua to expand access to clean cooking solutions for 200,000 households in Rwanda, benefiting more than 800,000 Rwandans in rural areas.

TotalEnergies will finance the distribution of improved cookstoves over a period of one year, supporting Rwanda’s goal of achieving universal access to clean cooking by 2030. The initiative aims to have a positive impact on the environment and people’s health while also helping to reduce gender inequalities.

Arnaud Le Foll, Senior Vice-President New Business and Carbon Neutrality at TotalEnergies, stated that clean cooking contributes to long-term social, economic and human development in a more sustainable way. The company also intends to purchase carbon credits generated by the program to help reduce its direct Scope 1 and 2 emissions from 2030 onward.

The project addresses a critical need in rural Rwanda, where traditional cooking methods using wood and charcoal have contributed to deforestation, indoor air pollution, and significant time burdens, particularly for women and children who are typically responsible for fuel collection and cooking.
