African Rights Watch Condemns unequivocally and in the strongest of terms the shooting and killing of innocent and peaceful #EndSARS Protesters in Nigeria by the Nigerian Army and the Police.

We call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately investigate this dastardly act and breach of the fundamental rights of lawful Nigerian Citizens, to bring the perpetrators to justice and remedy the wrong done in every respect and those found responsible should be prosecuted.

The right to free speech, peaceful assembly and association are fundamental rights guaranteed under Chapter 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), as well as other international convention / Treaties and Government has the fundamental obligation to protect these rights.

No citizen, in a civilised society, should be gunned down for a constitutional protest. It is unconscionable, inexcusable, cowardly and wrong. Those responsible for this, along the command structure must be held to account.

This must not be another case of ignored brutality and impunity. This matter transcends our ethnic, sectional or religious allegiances, this is about the Nigeria we dream of, a society under the law. The world is watching you. Nigerians are watching you.

This is a moment in history where allegiance must be trumped by humanity and we call on all Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, members of the international community, the media, governments and organisations to speak up against this barbaric act, to stand with the Nigerian Citizens and to intervene in the ongoing massacre of peaceful protesters and to #StopNigeriaGovernment
God Bless Nigeria
