The Zawiya Oil Refining Company has announced the full resumption of operations at all its facilities following the restoration of calm in and around the refinery area, working in close coordination with Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC). The facility, which had been disrupted by recent security disturbances in the area, immediately restarted both of its refining units upon the stabilisation of the situation.

Management Committee Chairman Emad Ben Koura confirmed that the refinery’s two processing units had been reactivated to ensure the uninterrupted supply of gasoline, diesel, and cooking gas to the local market and prevent fuel shortages. The company has also reopened its oil port, resuming maritime operations to receive tankers and load crude oil — a critical step in safeguarding the fuel supply chain and maintaining broader operational stability.

A comprehensive damage assessment is now underway, with specialised technical teams assigned to evaluate the condition of offices and storage tanks affected during the clashes and shelling. Maintenance and rehabilitation works have commenced immediately. The company has also indicated it will assess damage to employees’ private property — including vehicles — with plans to either compensate affected staff or cover repair costs at the company’s expense.

Refinery management urged workers to remain at their posts in the national interest, commending those who continued operating the facility throughout the crisis. Staff safety, management stressed, remains the company’s highest priority alongside the protection of facilities and continuity of fuel supply to Libyan consumers.
