Corcel Prepares Major Seismic Campaign in Angola’s Onshore Kwanza Basin

Independent oil and gas company Corcel is set to launch an extensive 326-kilometer 2D seismic data acquisition program in the second half of 2025, targeting Block KON 16 in Angola’s onshore Kwanza basin with plans to drill a new exploration well approximately 12 months later. The company will utilize both new and existing seismic data to support future drilling activities, building on seven legacy 2D line datasets from the 1970s and six modern 2D seismic lines collected in 2010.

Corcel COO Richard Lane emphasized the comprehensive approach to data integration, noting that “KON 16 has one well drilled in 1960: Tuenza-01. We also have 100% coverage of high-resolution eFTG data acquired in 2024.” The company’s strategy involves fully integrating geological workflows using all available technical data to identify both post-salt and pre-salt prospects.

The planned workflow includes shooting seismic data in 2025, processing and interpretation in Q1 2026, followed by drilling an exploration well within 12 months. The approach demonstrates the company’s commitment to thorough technical preparation before committing to high-cost exploration drilling.Source: energycapitalpower.com
