Zimbabwe Grants National Project Status to Major Gas Discovery
Invictus Energy’s flagship Cabora Bassa Project has been officially granted National Project Status by Zimbabwe’s Finance Minister Prof Mthuli Ncube, recognizing the strategic national and regional importance of the Mukuyu gas-condensate discovery. The designation, reserved for projects deemed critical to Zimbabwe’s economic growth and development, provides significant fiscal and non-fiscal incentives including duty exemptions, fast-tracked permitting, and streamlined infrastructure access.
The parties have also finalized terms of the Petroleum Production Sharing Agreement, which is being prepared for execution following constructive negotiations. Invictus Managing Director Scott Macmillan described the achievements as “two pivotal milestones,” emphasizing that the PPSA provides the stable framework required for development while National Project Status delivers tangible fiscal benefits to reduce costs and accelerate execution.
Finance Minister Prof Mthuli Ncube highlighted the government’s recognition of the economic, energy security, and social opportunities the project presents, expressing commitment to fostering a competitive investment environment. The developments follow Invictus’s recent strategic partnership with Qatari-based Al Mansour Holdings, strengthening the company’s position to advance toward commercial gas production.
