Energy data provider TGS, working with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company, has launched the EGY-2DRE2026 project, a large-scale 2D seismic reimaging initiative covering 34,000 kilometres across offshore Egypt.

The project will merge data from TGS’s GeoStreamer surveys from 2016, 2018 and 2023 with other conventional 2D data, applying an advanced velocity model and TGS’s proprietary DM-eFWI imaging technology to build a single, consistent regional framework across the offshore basins, with a particular focus on resolving the complex Messinian salt intervals that have historically been difficult to image.

TGS Executive Vice President for Multi-Client David Hajovsky said the reimaged dataset is designed to help operators identify and mature prospects with more confidence ahead of an anticipated future licensing round, supporting activity across the offshore Nile Delta, Herodotus Basin and wider Eastern Mediterranean. A priority subset of the data is due for delivery in the second quarter of 2027, with the full project completing in the first quarter of 2028.
