Shell and PETRONAS Exceed Expectations with Early Gas Well Completion

Burullus Gas Company, a joint venture between Shell and PETRONAS, has brought the Siena DE development well online three days ahead of schedule, marking the first milestone in the 11th phase of the West Delta Deep Marine project. The achievement validates engineering projections with natural gas production rates reaching 40 million cubic feet per day.

The 11th phase development plan includes drilling three new wells designed to increase the company’s total output by up to 130 million cubic feet per day. This expansion will significantly enhance Egypt’s domestic natural gas production, particularly during peak summer demand periods, while reducing import costs and ensuring supply security.

Actual well testing results confirmed previous engineering studies, demonstrating the accuracy of pre-drilling assessments and the effectiveness of the development strategy. The project represents a major step forward in maximizing production from Egypt’s offshore Mediterranean resources.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources praised the achievement as evidence of successful partnerships with international operators. The accelerated timeline demonstrates the efficiency of collaborative approaches to energy development and the potential for continued expansion of domestic gas production capacity.
