Turkey and Angola Strengthen Energy Partnership with $500 Million Trade Target

Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar has announced expanded cooperation opportunities between Turkey and Angola in oil and natural gas sectors, targeting a significant increase in bilateral trade volume from $126 million to $500 million. The partnership focuses on collaboration between Turkish Petroleum and Angola’s Sonangol and National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels, with a Turkish delegation planning to visit Angola this month.

The cooperation framework emerged from discussions during the third session of the Turkey-Angola Joint Economic Commission, where Minister Bayraktar met with Angola’s mineral resources, petroleum and gas minister, Diamantino Azevedo. The talks centered on enhancing crude oil and petroleum product trade between Turkish Petroleum International Company (TPIC) and Angola’s Sonangol, along with broader cooperation in mining, agriculture, education, transport, and investment sectors.

“Opportunities also exist in mining, flour milling, textiles, waste management, defense, apparel, retail, and fuel storage,” Bayraktar stated, encouraging Turkish firms to invest and share expertise in Angola. The minister emphasized the potential for supporting both infrastructure and human development through expanded business partnerships.

Minister Azevedo expressed Angola’s readiness to deepen strategic cooperation in energy, mining, and industry sectors. “Turkey’s technical know-how, experience, and private sector dynamism offer great opportunities for Angola,” Azevedo said, extending an invitation for Turkish businesses to invest in his country. The next joint commission session is planned to be held in Angola, with close monitoring of agreed-upon goals and objectives.
