Game-changing infrastructure deals set stage for production restart at offshore Sèmè Field later this year

In a major breakthrough for West African oil production, Rex International Holding’s subsidiary Akrake Petroleum Benin has secured crucial contracts that will resurrect the dormant Sèmè Field offshore Benin.

The landmark deals cover the supply of a mobile offshore production unit (MOPU) and an Aframax tanker to be converted into a floating storage and offloading facility. Both vital components are scheduled to arrive in Benin waters during the fourth quarter of this year, signaling imminent production.

The MOPU, being converted from a mid-sized drilling rig, will be equipped with custom-built processing equipment specifically designed for the field’s requirements. This development follows Akrake’s earlier contract for a modern jackup to conduct a 120-day drilling campaign on the field.

Akrake, which holds a commanding 76% operated interest in Sèmè, is poised to submit a comprehensive field development plan to Benin’s Ministry of Energy, Water and Mines, with production targeted to recommence before year-end – potentially transforming Benin’s energy landscape and economic outlook.
