MOZAMBIQUE COURTS TURKISH INVESTMENT IN NATURAL GAS DEVELOPMENT

Government highlights 200 trillion cubic feet reserves as strategic partnership opportunity
The Mozambican government is actively pursuing Turkish investment in its natural gas sector, emphasizing the country’s enormous resource potential and strategic market position. Secretary of State for Industry Custódia Paunde highlighted that Mozambique possesses more than 200 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, making it one of Sub-Saharan Africa’s most promising energy frontiers.
Paunde described Turkish companies as ideal collaborators for developing Mozambique’s natural gas infrastructure, citing their technical expertise and diversified product portfolios. The government’s vision extends beyond resource extraction to creating tangible economic gains through job creation, foreign exchange earnings, import substitution, and value-added production.
The country aims to position itself as a reliable regional and global supplier of semi-processed and finished gas-based products. Turkish investors are being encouraged to explore opportunities in chemical production, industrial machinery, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and logistics sectors that support the energy value chain.
Mozambique has implemented comprehensive investment incentives including a revised investment law guaranteeing equal treatment for domestic and foreign investors, tax reforms reducing Value Added Tax and corporate income tax for productive sectors, visa exemptions for entrepreneurs from 29 countries, and simplified business registration processes.
The country’s preferential access to international markets in Europe, the United States, and Asia, combined with regional integration frameworks, provides investors access to over 400 million consumers across Africa and millions more globally. Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce Yolanda Fernando and Turkish Chamber of Commerce representative Halim Ozge confirmed strong Turkish business interest in entering the Mozambican market.
