Nigeria’s NLNG Train-7 Project Reaches 80% Completion Mark in Major Milestone

Nigeria LNG Limited has announced a significant breakthrough in its $10 billion Train-7 gas project, with construction now reaching 80% completion. This represents a substantial jump from the 67% completion rate announced in June 2024, signaling rapid progress on one of Africa’s most ambitious energy projects.

The cutting-edge facility, located on Bonny Island in Rivers State, incorporates advanced liquefaction technology and is expected to boost NLNG’s production capacity by 35% from the current 22 million tonnes per annum to 30mtpa upon completion.

Dr. Sophia Horsfall, NLNG’s General Manager for External Relations and Sustainable Development, revealed the milestone during the inauguration of 140 trainees for an advanced human capital development program. The project, which involves very advanced technology, now requires highly skilled technical manpower as it approaches its final construction phase.

The Train-7 project represents over $10 billion in expected investment across the LNG value chain, positioning it to open new development opportunities and significantly boost Nigeria’s Foreign Direct Investment profile while enhancing confidence among foreign investors.
