Petralon Energy has pushed production at Nigeria’s Dawes Island field to approximately 4,800 barrels per day following the successful startup of the DI-3 well on March 14, 2026 — delivering a further 2,800 bpd and firmly establishing the Eastern Niger Delta asset as a flagship example of indigenous Nigerian oil development.

The DI-3 well is the company’s second consecutive producing well at Dawes Island, following the DI-2 startup in October 2025 as part of a phased redevelopment programme for the field. When Petralon acquired a 100% working interest in the asset through its subsidiary Petralon 54 in 2021, the field was entirely non-producing. It covers approximately 46 square kilometres, lies about 15 kilometres from Port Harcourt, and is estimated to contain 17.6 million barrels of recoverable oil.

More than 350,000 barrels of oil have already been exported from the field through the Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal, located approximately 30 kilometres from the asset — a milestone that validates both the commercial potential of the field and the operational capability of Nigeria’s growing indigenous upstream sector.

“Our success at Dawes Island was built on the conviction that Nigerians could acquire, develop, and operate world-class energy assets,” said Ahonsi Unuigbe, founder and CEO of Petralon Energy. “The easy thing after DI-2 would have been to pause, but the determination and resilience of every single member of the Petralon team drove us forward, and DI-3 is the result of that effort.” The DI-3 well was delivered with zero lost-time incidents.

Petralon described the DI-3 result as another step in its longer-term development plans for Dawes Island and its broader upstream growth strategy in Nigeria — with the implication that further well campaigns are likely to follow as the company continues its disciplined expansion.
