Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced on Sunday the resumption of production at the Sinawen oil field in the Nalut region — a long-anticipated restart after more than three and a half years of forced shutdown due to financial and technical difficulties linked to the pipeline serving the Mellitah Industrial Complex.
The Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO), a subsidiary of the NOC, has begun a gradual restart following the completion of extensive maintenance work and the resolution of key operational bottlenecks. The corporation confirmed that all safety and efficiency standards are being fully adhered to throughout the process.
The Sinawen field, which was inaugurated in 2020, is considered a strategic asset in Libya’s western oil infrastructure. NOC said the resumption of pumping is part of its broader strategic plan to increase national production, enhance state revenues, and support the country’s economic recovery. The gradual ramp-up is expected to contribute additional resources to local development projects and essential services.
