The speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Nuhu Abok has been impeached in the early hours of Thursday by eight of the 24 members of the State House of Assembly.

It would be recalled that the Hon. Abok has been having a running battle with the executive arms of the government precisely the State Governor Mr. Simon Lalong over the recent crises in the state where the Speaker along with members gave the governor ultimatum to take a certain decision and attest the insecurity in the state.

There was an early attempt to impeach the Speaker but it was foiled by a group.of youth who mobilised to the House to frustrate the move to impeach him.

The Truth learnt that eight members of the House who are All Progressives Congress (APC) members entered the chamber on Thursday at about 8:00 am amidst tight security both within and around the Assembly to impeach the Hon. Abok and immediately elected Hon. Yakubu Sanda representing Pengana constituency as the new speaker of the House.

It was gathered that other members who got wind of the development dashed to the House but were prevented from gaining access to the House by the stern-looking security men at the gate.

Shortly after the new Speaker was elected by the eight members, they drove to the old Government House where they were received by the Secretary to the State Government Professor Danladi Atu in the absence of Governor Simon Lalong who was out of town.
