Egyptian state-owned Nasr General Contracting Company, in partnership with a Chinese firm, has commenced construction of a $71 million oil facility for Iraq’s Midland Oil Company (MOC) — the latest in a growing string of Egyptian engineering contracts in the Iraqi market.
Nasr, a subsidiary of the Hassan Allam Holding group, has been joined in the consortium by EBS Petroleum, a unit of China’s ZhenHua Oil. The project adds to Nasr’s rapidly expanding Iraqi portfolio, which recorded approximately $123 million in completed project value during 2025 alone. That work spanned the rehabilitation of multiple bridges in Mosul as well as road networks and key infrastructure crossroads across several Iraqi provinces.
The new initiative reflects a broader trend of Egyptian engineering and construction companies expanding into the Iraqi market, particularly in oil sector infrastructure, construction, and technical services — areas where Egyptian firms have established a competitive edge. Nasr has indicated it is continuing discussions on additional infrastructure and oil-sector transportation projects in Iraq, suggesting further contract wins could follow.
