Egypt’s total crude oil production has exceeded 540,000 barrels per day, marking a significant return to growth after a prolonged period of decline, Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi announced during a meeting with the leadership of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

Badawi praised EGPC and its affiliated companies for the increase, crediting coordinated efforts across the petroleum value chain for boosting production while ensuring secure fuel supplies. He reaffirmed that safety remains the sector’s top priority and stressed the importance of protecting employees both at company facilities and beyond the workplace.

The minister called for continued development of practical ideas to overcome operational challenges, attract new investment, accelerate project execution, and shorten the time required to bring newly discovered fields onstream. He also highlighted recent efforts by the ministry, in cooperation with EGPC and the sector’s holding companies, to improve the commercial terms of exploration and production agreements with international partners — with a revised framework specifically targeting high-risk frontier areas including the Red Sea, the Western Mediterranean, and the southern Western Desert, where limited infrastructure has historically constrained investment.

EGPC CEO Salah Abdel Kerim reviewed the corporation’s ongoing efforts to raise hydrocarbon production, secure domestic fuel supplies, and improve the efficiency of transportation, distribution, and refining operations, saying the sector is fully prepared to meet higher summer demand. He added that the ongoing gasoline complex project at Cairo Oil Refining Company is expected to boost gasoline production by around 2,000 tons per day starting in August, a gain projected to cut Egypt’s fuel import bill by roughly $70 million per month.

The milestone follows a period of stabilisation: Egypt’s crude production had held at around 540,000 barrels per day in February 2025 after declining from approximately 600,000 barrels per day, as new drilling and field development activity began gaining momentum.
