Egyptian state-owned Petrojet has won the engineering, procurement, and construction contract to develop the second phase of the Hassi Bir Rekaiz oilfield project in Algeria, a significant expansion expected to substantially increase the field’s production capacity. The project aims to boost output from the current 13,000 barrels of oil per day to 31,500 barrels per day in sub-Phase 2a and up to 63,000 barrels per day in sub-Phase 2b.
The Hassi Bir Rekaiz field achieved first oil with its Phase 1 project in 2022. The development includes extensive infrastructure such as a central processing facility, gathering systems, approximately 217 kilometers of pipelines, accommodation facilities, and a new airstrip. Petrojet is leading the project in cooperation with Italy’s Arkad S.p.A. and is also working on joint fabrication workshops with Algeria’s Sonatrach.
The field is an onshore accumulation covering an area of 1,916 square kilometers, located in the Berkine Basin, and operated by Groupement Hassi Bir Rekaiz, a joint venture between Algeria’s state hydrocarbon firm Sonatrach and Thailand’s state-owned PTT Exploration and Production. Petrojet, a subsidiary of the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, positions itself as a regional EPC contractor providing construction and engineering services for oil, gas, and infrastructure projects across the Middle East and North Africa.
