The Climate Change Programme Officer at the Dutch Embassy in Mozambique, Ataíde Sacramento, revealed that the European country will make 25 million euros (the equivalent of 1.6 billion meticais) available each year for the period 2023-26 to finance development initiatives and mitigate climate effects.
Mentioned in a report published on Friday 3 November by Semanário Económico, he explained that the amount will be used to invest in priority areas in the provinces of Sofala and Cabo Delgado.
“We recently approved a strategy for the next four years, which consists of making 25 million euros available each year to adapt and support people affected by extreme events. We want to ensure that they are protected and have access to basic services,” said the source during a workshop on Energy Transition in Mozambique, organised by the Mozambican Energy Chamber.
Ataíde Sacramento also explained that the Netherlands has “supported many development programmes in the sectors of food and nutritional security, water, energy, transition and, above all, climate change”.
“There are implementing partners and soon some will be submitting their projects so that they can benefit from funding,” she concluded.
