Angola’s Oil Output Falls Short Despite Strong LNG Performance

Angola’s oil production in May averaged approximately 1.01 million barrels per day, falling 150,000 barrels short of the country’s official target, according to the National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels. The country produced 31.48 million barrels of crude oil during the month, with associated natural gas production reaching 81 billion cubic feet.

Despite crude oil production challenges, the Angola LNG facility in Soyo exceeded expectations, producing 4.48 million barrels of oil equivalent in May – 0.16% above projections. The facility’s output included liquefied natural gas, propane, butane, and condensates, with an average daily output of around 145,000 barrels of oil equivalent.

Of the total oil produced, nearly 29 million barrels were exported while approximately 1.79 million barrels were processed at the Luanda Refinery for domestic energy needs. Angola continues to rank among Africa’s top oil producers alongside Nigeria, maintaining its heavy reliance on oil exports as a key source of tax revenue and foreign exchange.
