Sahara Upstream has deployed MT D Adesanya, a 380,000-barrel tanker with capacity of more than 62,000 cubic metres of crude, to boost evacuation capacity at OML 18, one of Nigeria’s key upstream assets.
Stationed at Bonny Anchorage, the vessel will serve as an additional mother vessel receiving crude from shuttle vessels operating within the field before onward transfer to the Floating Storage and Offloading facility Cawthorne, complementing the existing MT D Bayero. Sahara said the addition should improve turnaround times, letting shuttle vessels discharge faster and return to loading operations more quickly.
The vessel is named in honour of the late Debola Adesanya, who led Sahara’s Kenya operations before his death in May 2026. Sahara Upstream Chief Value Officer Tosin Etomi said the deployment reinforces the company’s commitment to building the capacity needed for sustainable production growth, while improving reliability and reducing fuel consumption and emissions associated with vessel downtime.
