Egyptian-UAE energy firm GoGas Holding has signed a Joint Development Agreement with Egypt’s Madkour Holding Group to build a combined-cycle gas power plant in Nouakchott, Mauritania, in what would mark a transformative step for the country’s electricity sector.

The facility will be fuelled by gas produced from the offshore Banda Tevet field, currently being developed by GoGas. The project’s first phase, with an initial capacity of 200 megawatts, is expected to begin generating electricity by the end of 2028, eventually scaling up to 365 megawatts — which would substantially expand Mauritania’s national electricity grid and strengthen its role in the West African Power Pool.

Tarek El Molla, Chairman of GoGas Holding and Egypt’s former Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, framed the project as a model for turning the region’s natural resources into tangible benefits for local communities. “By leveraging our collective expertise, we are ensuring that Mauritania’s natural resources are transformed into sustainable power for its people and the wider West African market,” he said.

Mostafa Maskour, Chairman of Madkour Holding, added that the partnership reflects a commitment to serving as a strategic partner to African governments. “By combining our engineering excellence with GoGas’s expertise, we are not just building a power plant; we are establishing a sustainable energy foundation for Mauritania’s industrial and social growth,” he stated.

GoGas Holding is a privately owned firm founded by energy industry veterans with a focus on project development and investment in oil, gas, and power across the Eastern and Southern Mediterranean and Sub-Saharan Africa. Madkour Holding is a major Egyptian engineering and infrastructure group with a track record across energy, utility, and industrial sectors in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa.
