AIM-listed energy company Corcel has completed 100% of its 2D seismic acquisition project at the operated KON-16 Block within Angola’s Kwanza Basin, with early field data showing quality described as materially superior to any previous seismic work conducted in the basin.
The 326-line-kilometre campaign — acquired throughout December 2025 and into early 2026, with acquisition concluding on 22 February 2026 — provides clear imaging of key pre-salt structures and significantly boosts Corcel’s confidence in advancing multiple de-risked drilling opportunities within the block. Seismic processing will now be undertaken by global geophysical specialist DUG Technology Ltd.
“Completing the seismic acquisition project at KON-16 is a major operational milestone for Corcel,” said COO Richard Lane. “This was the Company’s first operated E&P project; we had over 270 people working on site and over 220,000 manhours worked in total. The project was executed without incident, to a very high standard, and the initial results are incredibly encouraging.” Services were completed by BGP Inc., a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation.
The new dataset represents a 227% increase in seismic coverage inside KON-16 compared to previously available data, reducing exploration risk and advancing the block toward drill-ready status. The campaign was designed to build on 2024 gravity gradiometry data and earlier legacy seismic, supporting Corcel’s progression toward drilling a high-impact exploration well.
