Khalda Petroleum Company has made a significant natural gas discovery in Egypt’s Western Desert, with initial estimates indicating production capacity of approximately 36 million cubic feet per day. The breakthrough came after successful drilling and electrical logging operations confirmed substantial gas presence at the Gomana-1 exploratory well.

Testing and initial flow assessments are currently underway, with the ministry targeting November 19 to bring the well into full production. The discovery represents a critical addition to Egypt’s domestic energy supply and aligns with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategic efforts to maximize production rates while encouraging investment partners to expand exploration drilling activities across the country’s hydrocarbon-rich regions.

Khalda Petroleum Company operates as a joint venture between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and US-based Apache Corporation. Apache, a Western Desert veteran since the mid-1990s, signed a major exploration agreement in September to add five new blocks involving 14 wells with investments totaling $35 million plus a $25 million signature bonus. The company’s South NUT-1 well, discovered in May, began production in September with an output of 50 million cubic feet per day of natural gas.
