Zambia’s Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has approved 29 licence applications and five construction permits across the petroleum, electricity and renewable energy sub-sectors, representing a total committed investment of ZMW 2.45 billion (approximately US$130 million).
The approvals were granted at the Board’s Licensing Committee meeting on February 13, 2026. The 29 licences cover 12 permits for the manufacture, supply, installation and maintenance of renewable energy equipment; 12 licences for the distribution, import and export of petroleum products; one combined generation, distribution and supply of electricity licence; and four licences for the importation, packaging, blending, distribution and export of lubricants. Additionally, 137 road tank vehicles were licensed to enhance petroleum transportation capacity.
Among the five construction permits approved is a 60 MWp solar photovoltaic power plant integrated with a 5MW/20MWh battery energy storage system, expected to strengthen grid stability and support Zambia’s renewable energy mix. Further approvals include 11 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) filling plants and newly constructed service stations.
ERB Public Relations Manager Namukolo Kasumpa said the Board will continue to make timely and responsible regulatory decisions aimed at promoting competition, growth and long-term sustainability in Zambia’s energy markets.
