On the evening of Monday, October 18, a fire-breathing Uhuru Kenyatta heavily castigated his estranged deputy William Ruto while addressing Mt Kenya residents in his native Kikuyu language. Coming against the backdrop of a series of political shadow boxing between the two top leaders who have not been seeing eye to eye, Uhuru asked his “soldiers” from the region to remain vigilant and be careful not to be duped during this season of high-octane politics. Speaking to a crowd in Sagana on Monday, the president urged the locals to listen to every presidential aspirant that visits the region and meticulously scrutinise what they have to offer. “You people are being lied to so much. Why can’t you tell them that what you want is empowerment? My people wake up and know the things that will help you and your generations,” he said amid cheers from the audience.

In a direct reference to the deputy president who hit out at him on Sunday, October 17, for failing to support his presidential bid, Uhuru said no politician should insult him. “And why do they continue to insult me? Don’t you guys see a tarmacked road here, those who abuse me, do they have any right to abuse me?” he posed .

Deceitful politicians Uhuru warned residents from his backyard that some politicians will come to them promising heaven but will take to their heels and leave the region suffering when they ascend to power. He thus advised them that as they take the handouts, they should remain wise as they head to the ballot further adding that he will give the region the signal when the time is right. “When some leaders achieve their political ambitions, you will not see them again when you are in need. Be watchful and use your brains wisely lest you suffer when you chose the wrong leaders,” Uhuru said

The two will be meeting for the first time since this year’s Madaraka Day fete that was held in Kisumu. David Mugonyi, Ruto’s communication secretary confirmed the attendance of the deputy president at the fete that will be held at the Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga.
