Uganda’s East African Crude Oil Pipeline Races Toward 2026 Completion at 62% Progress

Construction of the massive East African Crude Oil Pipeline has reached a critical milestone, with officials confirming the project is now 62% complete and on track to deliver first oil by June 2026. The ambitious 1,443-kilometer pipeline represents one of Africa’s most significant energy infrastructure projects, connecting Uganda’s oil fields to Tanzania’s coast.

Dr. Joseph Kobusheshe, Director for Environment, Health and Safety at the Petroleum Authority of Uganda, reported significant progress across all major components during a joint inspection by Ugandan and Tanzanian regulatory authorities. Key facilities including Pump Station One are advancing steadily, with over 1,000 kilometers of line pipes already delivered from China and Greece.

The project has generated substantial employment opportunities, with over 2,000 local Ugandans benefiting from construction work since 2022. At the Kingfisher oilfield alone, 18 wells have been drilled out of 31 planned, meeting the minimum requirements for initial oil production. The Kingfisher feeder pipeline is already complete and ready for operation, while the Central Processing Facility stands at 65% completion.
