At least three UN peacekeepers were killed on Tuesday, while five others sustained injuries after their vehicle drove over an improvised explosive device in central Mali, according to local reports.

The UN mission in Mali (Minusma) said the incident happened near the village of Songobia, some 29km south-west of Bandiagara town.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack saying it may constitute war crimes under international law.

He called on Malian authorities to spare no effort in identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators
