Energy data and intelligence company TGS, in partnership with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and SeaSeis Geophysical Limited, has launched the Nigeria Laide multi-client 3D seismic survey — covering approximately 11,700 square kilometres across the Outer Fold and Thrust Belt of the eastern Niger Delta, one of Nigeria’s richest hydrocarbon regions.

The survey is designed to tackle some of the most complex geological challenges in deepwater Nigeria, including stacked toe-thrust structures, elongated anticlines, inner fold-and-thrust-belt geometries, and shale diapirs and mud volcanoes — all of which have historically made exploration in the region difficult and costly.

The Laide survey employs the GeoStreamer dual-sensor system with long offsets, wide tow, and a triple-source configuration to deliver modern broadband seismic data. This technology supports full-integrity processing methods and advanced velocity model building, giving explorers the data quality required to evaluate prospects with significantly greater confidence.

TGS Chief Executive Kristian Johansen said the survey reinforces the company’s commitment to Nigeria’s energy future. “Nigeria continues to play a crucial role in the global supply of oil and gas. By utilizing industry-trusted acquisition solutions, TGS provides insights that accelerate exploration activity and allow operators to fulfil their exploration ambitions,” he said.
