TGS, an energy data and intelligence company, has successfully reprocessed the GeoStreamer MC3D seismic dataset for Angola’s Block 16 in collaboration with the National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency. Located offshore in the Lower Congo Basin, the 3,684 km² dataset enhances subsurface imaging and facilitates exploration of deeper geological formations.
The improved seismic data allows for a more detailed evaluation of hydrocarbon potential, particularly in post-salt and pre-salt plays. Notably, the dataset provides insight into marginal fields like the Tchihumba field, discovered in 2003.
Block 16 remains underexplored, with its last exploratory well drilled in 2013. However, recent re-evaluations have identified new oil recovery prospects, reinforcing the potential for future discoveries.
