SOMALIA CLIMBS IN GLOBAL PEACE INDEX, EXITS BOTTOM 10 FOR FIRST TIME

Climbs to 151st globally thanks to successful military campaigns, reduced conflict casualties, and stronger international support

Somalia has moved up to 151st out of 163 countries in the 2025 Global Peace Index, exiting the world’s 10 least secure nations for the first time since the rankings began in 2007.

Officials hailed the shift as a milestone, crediting military gains against al-Shabaab, governance reforms, and stronger cooperation with international partners. The index also recorded fewer conflict deaths and a modest drop in political instability.

Despite the improvement, Somalia remains among the least peaceful countries globally, with high insecurity, terrorism threats, and weak institutions continuing to strain its economy and society.
