Nation’s ambitious production forecast targets over 30 million barrels for 2025

Senegal’s offshore Sangomar oil field has successfully produced and sold 3.8 million barrels of crude oil since operations began earlier this year, marking a significant milestone in the West African nation’s emergence as an oil producer.

The Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines announced this week that four cargoes—SAN027, SAN028, SAN029, and SAN030—have been successfully lifted and sold to international markets, underscoring the field’s commercial viability.

Even more impressive is the ambitious production forecast for 2025, with approximately 30.53 million barrels of crude oil expected from the offshore field, which lies about 100km off the coast of Dakar.

The Sangomar field is operated by exploration and production company Woodside Energy, which holds an 82% stake, alongside Senegal’s state-owned Petrosen with the remaining 18% interest.

This development represents a transformative moment for Senegal’s economy as it joins the ranks of Africa’s oil-producing nations.
