At this year’s UN Climate Change Conference, known as COP28, Rwanda will call for more ambitious climate action, a doubling of funding for adaptation and share why Rwanda is an ideal destination for green investment.
COP28 is being held from 30 November – 12 December 2023 in Dubai, UAE.
Rwanda’s delegation to COP includes representatives from government institutions, development banks, the private sector and civil society – all united in their commitment to address climate change and advance sustainable development.
Rwanda’s active participation in previous COPs has been instrumental in highlighting why the country is an ideal destination for green investment.
This year’s COP28 is an opportunity to inspire a stronger commitment to ambitious climate action while showcasing diverse investment opportunities in Rwanda.
“We want a COP of transformational actions. COP28 will be a success if we see the loss and damage fund operational, and if the global stock take leads to faster emissions cuts by the major polluters. That’s the only way to keep the 1.5-degree goal alive. Rwanda’s priority is to showcase the solutions we have committed to scale up green growth, and play our role to enhance resilience of Rwanda.” said Dr. Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya, Minister of Environment, Rwanda.
President Paul Kagame attended the COP28, and exchanged with various leaders on the sidelines including UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, President of Togo Faure Gnassingbé, Gabon’s Transitional President General Brice Oligui Nguema, and President of the European Council Charles Michel among others.
He also attended the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) reception co-hosted by HM King Charles III and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
During COP28, Rwanda will launch and showcase a number of new climate action initiatives and forge new partnerships, including; Launching the Rwanda Carbon Markets Framework; Showcasing the Rwanda Green Taxonomy; Sharing 10 years of impact by the Rwanda Green Fund; Highlighting the climate impact of plastic production and the road to a global plastics treaty; Hosting an investor roundtable on Rwanda as an emerging green investment hub.
