Advanced horizontal and U-shaped well techniques have extended the life of a 30-year-old offshore field — and Perenco is already repeating the formula on its next asset
Perenco Congo has reported a sustained and material uplift in production at the Tchibouela East field offshore the Republic of Congo, following the completion of a five-infill well drilling campaign concluded at the end of 2025. The campaign has delivered an additional 6,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd), with results now confirmed as stable.
The drilling programme employed advanced offshore techniques, including horizontal and U-shaped wells, which increased oil recovery rates while reducing operational risks. Tchibouela East has been in production for almost 30 years, and the results demonstrate the potential to significantly extend the productive life of mature offshore fields through targeted infill drilling.
Buoyed by the success at Tchibouela East, Perenco Congo has now launched a new five-well drilling campaign on the Masseko field, designed to increase production from that asset while also testing a new geological horizon.
“This positive result clearly demonstrates our ability to extend field life and maximise the value of acreage for the benefit of all stakeholders. Tchibouela East has been in production for almost thirty years and we are pleased to help ensure that the field can produce for many more years to come. The operational tempo continues and we are now drilling on the Masseko field, where initial results from first production are encouraging,” said Gregoire de Courcelles, Managing Director of Perenco Congo.
