The governor of Nigeria’s central Kogi state, Yahaya Bello, has survived an assassination attempt along the busy Lokoja-Abuja highway, a spokesperson said.
Mr Bello’s convoy was attacked on Sunday by gunmen who were “dressed in military uniforms”, the governor’s spokesperson Kingsley Fanwo said in a statement.
He said the attackers waylaid the governor’s convoy and started shooting sporadically at his vehicle.
According to Mr Fanwo, it took the swift intervention of security officers attached to the governor to foil “the satanic plans of the unknown soldiers”.
Police say they are investigating the attack.
Mr Bello escaped a similar attack in June, which is still being investigated by security agencies.
