Ten Nigerian companies developing solutions for extreme heat and climate challenges have secured fresh international funding to expand their innovations. The funding program is focused on helping startups tackle rising temperatures affecting agriculture, healthcare, energy supply, and food storage systems in Nigeria.

The selected companies are working on projects such as solar-powered cooling systems, climate-smart farming technology, improved healthcare response tools, and energy-efficient storage systems for farmers and traders. Experts say these innovations could help reduce food waste and protect livelihoods affected by increasing temperatures.

Each company will receive financial grants as well as technical support to strengthen their operations and prepare for larger investments. The initiative also aims to help startups improve product quality, attract customers, and scale their businesses nationwide.

Climate specialists noted that Nigeria and several African countries are experiencing stronger heat waves that affect farming productivity, public health, and electricity demand. Supporting local innovators is therefore becoming an important strategy for building resilience against climate-related challenges.

Observers believe the success of these startups could encourage more investment into green businesses and environmental technology across Africa. Many analysts say locally developed climate solutions are often more effective because they directly address community realities and infrastructure conditions.
