The Energy Commission of Nigeria has launched an ambitious clean energy initiative that will transform power supply at educational and healthcare institutions across the country.
The Renewed Hope Solarization Project will deliver 2 megawatts of solar power to each of Nigeria’s 37 federal universities and 37 tertiary hospitals nationwide, creating a reliable and sustainable energy backbone for critical sectors.
During an Abuja press briefing, ECN Director General Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi explained that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for national energy prosperity. The project represents a significant step toward stabilizing Nigeria’s electricity supply while advancing the country’s sustainable development goals.
The announcement comes amid discussions about the ₦10 billion approval for solar electrification of the Presidential Villa, which Dr. Abdullahi defended as part of a comprehensive strategy that includes nationwide prepaid metering and increased renewable energy adoption.
By focusing on educational and healthcare institutions, the government aims to ensure these essential services have uninterrupted power while demonstrating its commitment to clean energy solutions.
